A Good .MKV video Converter?

There is a lot of them on Google, but I had problems in the past downloading freeware. Do you know any converter that's free to download and is legit? I need to convert .mkv file movies in to dvd format, but I just want it to be anything else but .mkv. O and something that can keep the quality possibly?
